Bitcoin Lightning Network’s public capacity falls below 5,000 BTC:
The public capacity of Bitcoin’s Lightning Network has dropped below 5,000 BTC, marking a 7% decline from a month ago and a 10% decline from its peak in March. Lightning Network is a popular Layer 2 solution for Bitcoin, allowing for faster and cheaper transactions off the blockchain.
Despite years of growth, the Lightning Network has stagnated in the past nine months, with a decline in both capacity and the number of publicly viewable channels. There are several reasons for this decline, including delayed implementation of Lightning support by exchanges and concerns over security vulnerabilities.
Despite these challenges, there is still nearly a quarter of a billion dollars in liquidity available for payments across the Lightning Network. Fans remain hopeful that interest in scaling solutions for Bitcoin transactions will be renewed in the coming years.
